Graduation Ceremony of the School of Communication

27 March 2021

The Graduation Ceremony organised by the School of Communication for the graduate classes of 2018-19 and 2019-20 was held on 27 March 2021. Taking into consideration that the pandemic situation has improved, this school-based Graduation Ceremony was specially organised so that graduates would be able to share the joy and glory of graduation with their families, friends and faculty members. Senior management of the University and members of the School of Communication gathered at the Ceremony to congratulate the graduates on completing a significant chapter of their lives.

Professor Simon Ho, President of The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong, presided at the Ceremony. Over 200 graduates were conferred degrees of Master of Arts in Strategic Communication, Bachelor of Journalism and Communication (Honours), and Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Convergent Media and Communication Technology respectively. They received the honours in the rejoicing applauses of their friends and relatives.

President Ho delivered a speech to encourage the graduates to always think positively and rise to the challenge when facing difficulties. He also reminded all graduates to hold on to the five “C” qualities, including critical thinking, creativity, communication and collaboration, caring attitude, and community engagement, in pursuit of their aspirations so as to lead a rewarding and fulfilling life.

Professor Scarlet Tso, Associate Vice-President (Communications and Public Affairs) and Dean of the School of Communication, extended her warmest congratulations to all graduates. She shared with graduates the core values of the School of Communication, i.e. “Truth, Integrity, Creativity and Professionalism”. She urged graduates to uphold these values and always choose to do the right thing rather than taking an easier yet dishonourable path to achieve success. She remarked that graduates will always have a home in the School and they are always welcomed to visit their home in the School whenever they are pleased. When they are distraught or in despair, the School will be there to provide refuge. On the other hand, when they become accomplished, the School will be there to share their happiness and celebrate their achievements with them.

Approaching the end of each session of the Ceremony, Mr Kwong Ho Yeung, the valedictorian of the 2018-19 class, and Ms Ling Wing Yi, the valedictorian of the 2019-20 class, each gave a speech at the respective session, sharing their memories of the days studying at the School and expressed their gratitude to teachers, personnel of the University and the School, their fellow classmates, their families and friends for their support and care. It was in these warmest recollections and thanks that the two sessions of the Ceremony were declared closed.
