SCOM Talk Series #34: How to Strive for Justice When Social Barriers are Clear? Reflections from a TV Reporter to a Forum Host

14 November 2018

Mr So King Hang, a reporter of Radio Television Hong Kong and the Host of City Forum, gave a sharing at SCOM Talk Series 34 on 14 Nov 2018.

Mr So shared quotes by Mr Steve Jobs, one of the founders of Apple Inc, at his Stanford University Commencement speech in 2005, to encourage students to find what they love and follow their dreams. In the Q&A session, students raised questions regarding ethical dilemmas faced by journalists when covering sensitive issues, making reference to the 2008 Sichuan earthquake. In response, Mr So shared with attending staff and students his firsthand experience of being in Sichuan right after the earthquake and the difficult decision as well as the mixed feelings he had to resolve when he needed to interview a survivor who had just lost her child.

All attending staff and students were deeply inspired as they got a glimpse of the actual challenges journalists have to deal with in real situations at the workplace.

Mr Brian So, Senior Lecturer of School of Communication, was the MC of the talk and the moderator of the Q&A session.
