Enhancing Digital Communication through Generative AI: A Pilot Scheme for Innovative Pedagogies
– A Project Funded by the HSUHK Teaching Development Grant
The caption project, organised by the School of Communication, co-hosted by Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) and supported by the University Teaching and Learning Quality Committee, aims to deepen both faculty and students’ understanding and practical application of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools through a series of eight interactive workshops. This series of workshops marks the School’s first in-depth collaboration with the broadcasting and film industries in the field of artificial intelligence education. It was thoughtfully conceptualised and planned by Associate Dean Professor Ronald Chiu, together with three faculty members – Dr Sobel Chan, Ms Doris Law and Ms Glacial Cheng – marking a significant milestone in innovative teaching.
A pilot workshop for non-governmental organisations was conducted in December 2025 for community service and first-time operation of AI software and hardware. Following eight intensive workshops from January to March 2026, students successfully utilised Generative AI to create image works on diverse themes. The School held a week-long exhibition from 23 to 29 April 2026 to showcase students’ creative achievements, followed by an award ceremony on 27 April 2026 to honour outstanding works.
To enhance understanding and practical application of Generative AI of the University community, The School would like to share the following workshop materials:
- Generative AI Tools for Digital Communication – Combined Teaching Notes
- Hong Kong Generative Artificial Intelligence Technical and Application Guideline
- Ethical Artificial Intelligence Framework
The School would also like to share highlights of the workshops:
