About the Programme

The Bachelor of Journalism and Communication (Honours) (BJC) programme is the first 4-year undergraduate programme in Hong Kong that converges Business, Journalism, Public Relations and Corporate Communication in one curriculum. The programme strikes a balance between theory and practical training. It offers local and overseas internship opportunities as well as exchange programmes to students with a view to broadening their horizons and enhancing their critical thinking, creativity and presentation skills. We strive to train students to become communication professionals in the fields of Business Journalism and Corporate Communication. Students may choose either one of the following two  concentrations in the BJC programme:

  • Business Journalism Concentration
  • Corporate Communication Concentration

Programme Objectives

  1. Competence in professional communication in English, Chinese and other forms of communication;
  2. State-of-the-art knowledge of theories and principles in journalism and communication from regional and intercultural perspectives;
  3. Critical and creative abilities in analysing the complexities of media and applying theories to various contexts, especially business contexts;
  4. Competence in converged communication skills in business communication and corporate communication; and
  5. A strong sense of social responsibility and high commitment to professional ethics.

Programme Intended Learning Outcomes (PILOs)

Upon completion of the programme, students should be able to:

  1. Communicate appropriately and effectively in both spoken and written forms in English and Putonghua at a level competent for general communication, especially in a business context;
  2. Command fundamental journalism and communication theories and principles;
  3. Apply the knowledge and skills of communication to facilitate the achievement of corporate goals and objectives;
  4. Apply the knowledge and skills of journalism to analyse and interpret the business, economic, and financial activities and changes;
  5. Demonstrate a global perspective and an understanding of cultural diversity, as evidenced by an understanding of globalisation, the dimensions along which cultures vary and the implications of both for business;
  6. Demonstrate the ability to conduct research, gather information, synthesise and analyse data and present relevant news or persuasive information at a professional level;
  7. Have the ability to make independent judgment on social, cultural and business issues in local community and Greater China;
  8. Think critically, creatively and independently; evaluate their own work and the work of others for accuracy, fairness, clarity, and correctness;
  9. Apply IT technologies appropriate for the production, editing and presentation of visual, aural, textual or other media content;
  10. Be an ethical professional who understands the legal implications, considerations and practices of the media and business professions and assumes a strong sense of social responsibility.
