HSUHK SCOM Students Won Two Awards in China Daily Campus News Awards 2023
Students of the School of Communication (SCOM) of HSUHK won awards again in the China Daily Campus News Awards competition.
This year (2023), the organiser received over 1,000 submissions from 84 colleges and universities from Mainland China, Hong Kong, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, with the total number participants reaching the record high of more than 3,600. Two groups of students from the School of Communication won two awards, namely the 2nd runner up in the “Best News Video Reporting” category and the 2nd runner up in the “Best in Short Video Reporting” category.
China Daily (Hong Kong Edition) established the Campus News Awards in 2012. The competition aims to encourage university students to actively engage in campus news reporting and hone their skills in news writing and multimedia production. Since its inception, the event has been held annually and is now in its twelfth year.
The competition was judged by over a hundred senior media professionals, university journalism professors, and experts from relevant government departments. The organiser said that the entries were able to address current hot topics, provide in-depth and comprehensive coverage and demonstrate a level of professionalism, leaving a deep impression on the judges.
Professor Scarlet Tso, Dean of the School of Communication, has served as a judge for the Campus News Awards for many years. During the award ceremony, she pointed out that the level of the entries has been increasingly improving, with diverse styles and perspectives seen in the reports. She thus complimented the event as a highly meaningful one as it provides an effective platform for promoting the exchange of journalistic knowledge, journalistic skills, and regional cultures.
It is encouraging to see students from the School of Communication stand out among more than a thousand submissions.
