Five Teams of SCOM Students were Awarded the Towngas ESG Scholarship

To encourage students to familiarise themselves with ESG (nvironmental, Social, and Governance) concepts and to remain concerned for ESG issues in their future careers in journalism and communication, The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas) established the ESG Scholarship Programme in 2023/24, initially with five scholarship slots exclusively made available for SCOM students of HSUHK. Students applying were required to submit a news story revolving around ESG themes, and could choose to present the story in the print form or in the multimedia form.

The scholarship programme received favourable responses. The submisisons covered a wide range of ESG topics. After careful consideration, the judge panel selected five teams for awarding the scholarship slots, with a sum of HK$10,000 for each team.

The scholarship presentation ceremony was held on 15 October 2024 at Towngas Headquarters. During the ceremony, Mr Felix Lee Kin-ming, Head of Group ESG / Head of Group Corporate Affairs at Towngas and Professor Scarlet Tso, Dean of the School of Communication at HSUHK, delivered speeches to congratulate the winning teams on their outstanding performance and encourage them to continue to make effort to promote ESG concepts to the society.

The School of Communication thanks Towngas for setting up the ESG Scholarship Programme, which inspires students to care for and contribute to the society through leveraging their communication knowledge. In the future, the School will continue to collaborate with the industry and the community to promote development and progress of the society.
