The SCOM Awards Presentation Ceremony for 2024-25 was held on 7 November 2024. The event featured awards presented by Professor Scarlet TSO, Dean of the School of Communication; DG Nigel LO, District Governor of Rotary International District 3450; Ms. Lanche YEUNG, President of the Rotary Club of Mandarin HK; Ms. Angel WONG, Circulation and Marketing Director of China Daily Hong Kong Limited; and professors of the School of Communication. Many award recipients were accompanied by their families and friends, who came to applaud the honour of the student awardees, making the atmosphere of the ceremony one of liveliness and touchingness.
While congratulating the awardees on their outstanding performance, Professor Tso stressed that the mission of the School goes beyond merely imparting knowledge; it also places equal emphasis on nurturing students’ innovative capabilities and critical thinking skills. She believed that each award-winning student should have already developed independent thinking and acquired some professional knowledge and competencies from the different theoretical and practical courses offered by the School in different stages. Yet apart from knowledge and skills, virtues and the courage to embrace social responsibilities are also of paramount importance. She thus earnestly hoped that students would carry forward the virtues and courage they have learned at the School, and thereby continued the legacy of the School’s educational spirit. She once again encouraged students: “As the motto of the School goes, ‘Today you take pride in the School of Communication, and tomorrow the School of Communication will take pride in you!’”
Four academic awards were presented in the ceremony: the Most Improved Awards, the Best Progress Awards, the Honour Roll, and the Dean’s List, recognising over 120 students for their outstanding academic performance. Additionally, the scholarships donated by Rotary Club of Mandarin HK and China Daily Hong Kong Limited were also presented. The Rotary Club of Mandarin HK Scholarships were respectively awarded to FONG Lap Yin from the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Convergent Media and Communication Technology (BA-CMCT) programme and JIANG Yuxuan from the Bachelor of Journalism and Communication (Honours) (BJC) programme for their exceptional academic achievements and distinguished services. The China Daily Hong Kong Scholarships were awarded to LI Ruihe and YIP Ting Kwan from the BA-CMCT programme, and KO Hau Ching from the BJC programme for their academic excellence in studies, especially in journalism studies.
During the ceremony, representatives of the award recipients expressed their heartfelt gratitude for the guidance from their teachers as well as the unwavering support and encouragement from their families and peers. They pledged to continue their hard work and courageously pursue their dreams.
The School would like to congratulate the award-winning students once again and looks forward to witnessing their other extraordinary achievements in the future.
