The School of Communication (SCOM) held its first teaching sharing seminar of AY2024/25 on 3 April 2025. The sharing session was hosted by Dr Keith Cheung, Associate Professor, and focused on the theme of “Low-Altitude Economy.” Mr Rex Ma, Honorary President of the Asia Pacific Creativity Industries Association and Advisor to the Industry Collaboration, Low-Altitude Economy & Aerospace Industry Professional Committee of the Shenzhen Doctoral and Expert Association, was invited to share his insights on the concept and development of the low-altitude economy with the faculty members.
The low-altitude economy refers to an integrated economic model that operates within low-altitude airspace (typically defined as airspace below 1,000 meters above ground level) using vehicles such as drones, eVTOLs (electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft), and general aviation aircraft. In recent years, with advancements in technology and the relaxation of regulations, the low-altitude economy has emerged as a new and competitive field globally, particularly showcasing immense potential in areas such as logistics and delivery, urban transportation, emergency rescue, and agricultural protection.
Mr Ma introduced the core driving forces behind the low-altitude economy, including technological breakthroughs, policy support, and market demand. He also discussed the main application scenarios, such as logistics and transportation, urban air mobility, and emergency and public safety, providing the participants with a deeper understanding of the future trends in the low-altitude economy.
