To help our students deepen their understanding of radio broadcasting services and operations, 25 students and teachers from the School of Communication visited Metro Broadcasting Corporation Limited on April 16, 2026.
The itinerary is mainly divided into three parts. First, during the radio station introduction, Ms. Michelle Ngai, Channel Director of Metro Finance, delivered a presentation on the channel’s positioning and operations. She shared how the channel designs its programmes in response to global market developments and social trends, with the goal of offering distinctive content—so that it becomes a platform that others cannot easily replace.
Next, Mr. Michael Chan, Senior Commercial Producer and Station Sound Producer, introduced students to Metro Broadcasting’s organisational structure and operations, as well as its website and mobile application. As a programme host himself, he also pointed out that radio is no longer limited to audio broadcasting; it must also keep pace with the growth of multimedia platforms. He emphasised that programme hosts need to manage their own shows and possess a wide range of skills—for example, video production and social media design—so they can stay relevant and move with the times.
In the second part, Mr. Chan led the students on a tour of the station facilities, including various live broadcasting studios and recording facilities. He also guided them through hands-on operation of the equipment.
The third part consisted of experience-based activities. Students had the opportunity to participate in a programme recording, take part in a discussion with Mr. Chan, and personally experience the programme production process. They also got to enjoy the fun of being “on-air.”
Through this visit and hands-on experience, students were able to understand how radio broadcasting operates and develops, while also gaining insight into the professionalism and expectations of the broadcasting industry—benefiting greatly from the experience.
