In order to deepen students’ understanding of the use of low-carbon energy in combating climate change, a group of 20 teachers and students from the School of Communication, led by Dr. Janice Wong and Dr. Connie Chan, visited the CLP Power Low Carbon Energy Education Centre on April 25. The group was warmly welcomed by the Centre, which is sponsored by CLP Power.
Ms. Tiffany Poon, the representative of the Centre welcomed the group and did a sharing session with them on topics such as the relationship between climate change and fuel choices, renewable energy, natural gas, nuclear power, and powering the future. The group then toured the five themed zones in the Centre. As the zones are connected by multimedia and interactive elements, including 3D immersive displays, it felt like being situated inside of a nuclear reactor. Students all found the experience very fascinating.
Ms. Poon then shared with the group the most updated data on the climate change issues and discussed with them possible ways to incorporate low carbon energy practices into daily lives. During her sharing, she specially emphasized the importance and significance of sustainable development in the modern world.
The visit did not only enhance students’ understanding of how low carbon energy can be utilized to cope with climate changes, but it also enabled students to learn from the visual displays and pamphlets techniques related to promotion and public relations. The visit aligns with the School’s ongoing efforts to provide students with industry connections and opportunities for professional growth.
