Olivia Cheng, Former Miss Hong Kong:
Embracing the Present and Learning from Others to Move Forward
Olivia Cheng Man-ngar, crowned Miss Hong Kong in 1979, has enjoyed a remarkable career in the entertainment industry, featuring in numerous iconic films and television dramas. After the 1990s, she shifted her focus to family life and developed a passion for golf.
In 1994, she made history as the first Chinese woman selected for the Hong Kong women’s golf team and was recognized as Hong Kong’s top female golfer for five consecutive years. Additionally, she founded the Hong Kong Chinese Women’s Golf Association and became the first female Chinese golf coach for the Hong Kong Golf Association.
When reflecting on her past, Olivia, often celebrated as a success story, shares that she prioritizes learning over dwelling on what has been. “As we age, time seems to accelerate,” she notes. “There simply isn’t enough time to reflect on yesterday. The past is behind us, and I believe that focusing on doing my best each day is what truly matters.”
Olivia underscores the significance of valuing the present, drawing inspiration from the strengths of others, and consistently striving for growth. “In the grand scheme of the universe, life is incredibly short,” she asserts.
