SCOM and HQU’s School of Journalism and Communication signed MoU to jointly promote integrating AI into journalism and communication education

From 9 to 10 January 2025, Professor Scarlet Tso, Dean of the School of Communication (SCOM) at The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK), led a delegation to Xiamen to meet with the Vice President of Huaqiao University (HQU), Professor Lin Hongyu. During this visit, they signed a MoU with Professor Wang Guiting, Executive Vice Dean of the School of Journalism and Communication at HQU. The purpose of this agreement is to strengthen connections and collaboration between the two Schools and to promote the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in enhancing journalism and communication education. The delegation from SCOM included Dr James Chang, Associate Dean of SCOM, Dr Wang Yunfeng, advisor to SCOM and chairman of Hong Kong AI Media Corporation Limited, and Dr Clio Wu, Programme Director of Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Arts and Culture Communication.

The delegation from SCOM was warmly welcomed by Professor Lin Hongyu, Vice President of HQU, and Mr Tu Wei, Director of the Chinese Language and Culture Education Office at HQU. Vice President Lin expressed his support for the cooperation between the two institutions and acknowledged the progress that SCOM has made in recent years.

At the School of Journalism and Communication at HQU, Party Secretary Li Yongsong, Executive Associate Dean Wang Guiting, Associate Dean Zhu Danhong, and other leaders held a symposium with the SCOM delegation. The two Schools exchanged views on collaboratively exploring AI and journalism education, teacher and student exchanges, and academic research. They expressed hope that through the innovative application of cutting-edge technology, both institutions can enhance the scientific and technological elements of journalism and communication education, infusing new vitality into the field of global cultural communication.
