School of Communication

The School of Communication is playing a leading role in business communication education. Apart from the three programmes being offered, namely the Bachelor of Journalism and Communication (Honours), the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Convergent Media and Communication Technology and the Master of Arts in Strategic Communication, the School will introduce its third undergraduate programme, the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Arts and Culture Communication, in September 2024. At the School of Communication, students do not only learn in the classroom, but they also acquire practical knowledge and skills through participating in a variety of experiential activities including internships, projects, expert talks, and field trips. Graduates of the School are therefore well equipped to cope with the various challenges in the real world of work. They are also ready to pursue further studies at the next higher level.

Dean's Message

The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK) is a self-funded private university committed to providing outstanding business education to society since it was first established as the Hang Seng Management College in 2010. The University offers a wide spectrum of innovative post-secondary degree programmes and curricula as well as a modern environment in which the potential and talents of our students can be nurtured and developed.

The School of Communication has been playing a leading role in business communication education. It is a pioneer in offering the unique Bachelor of Journalism and Communication (Honours) programme, which was launched in 2011 being the first of its kind to combine business and finance with journalism and communication to meet industry’s increasing demand for professionals in business journalism, corporate communication and communication technology. In 2016, the School further launched the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Convergent Media and Communication Technology programme, which focuses on leveraging technology to serve communication needs. In 2018, the School offered its first master’s degree programme, the Master of Arts in Strategic Communication, to provide graduates with an option for post-graduate studies in communication. Coming to the new academic year (2024/25), the School will introduce its third undergraduate programme, the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Arts and Culture Communication. All these milestones signify the School’s direction and progress in providing a wide range of degree programmes at different QF levels to serve the community and industry.

The School of Communication’s faculty consists of renowned academic scholars and seasoned media professionals. With strong support from the University, the School invests heavily in many state-of-the-art facilities, including the SCOM Cinema and TV Production Centre, the TV Lab, the Radio Broadcasting Studio, the Radio Broadcasting Training Centre, the Multimedia Training Centre, the Non-linear Editing Room and the Media and Communication Lab. With the renowned academic team and cutting-edge facilities, we strive to nurture students with biliterate and trilingual skills with global perspectives, analytical skills, innovative minds and critical thinking. Our mission is not only to educate and train students to be media professionals equipped with necessary knowledge and skills and to pursue further studies at the post-graduate level, but also to heighten students’ sense of social awareness and responsibility through broad-based cross-disciplinary studies and training.
