SCOM Talk Show ep81: Ms. May Chan Suk Mei

Ms. May Chan Suk Mei Encourages Young People to Join News Industry to Broaden Horizons:
“No Need to Fear Lack of Freedom as Long as Facts Are Reported”

In the midst of challenges faced by Hong Kong’s news industry, the interest of young individuals to pursue a career in this field has dwindled. During an interview on SCOM Talk Show of HSUHK, veteran journalist Ms. May Chan Suk Mei expressed that despite the modest pay in journalism, it is adequate to sustain a family and provides avenues for continuous learning, broadening one’s perspectives. She advocates for aspiring journalists and communication students to embark on a media career post-graduation for a period of two to three years to explore various opportunities before charting their course forward. Addressing the issue of press freedom, she emphasizes, “By adhering to reporting facts with sincerity, objectivity, fairness, and thoroughness, there is no reason to apprehend a limitation on freedom.”
