Cantonese Opera Actress Leung Fei Tung:
Bridging the Gap and Inspiring the Younger Generation
Leung Fei Tung, a rising star of Cantonese opera, is making waves with her captivating performances and dedication to promoting this traditional art form. Born in the 1990s, Leung developed a deep interest in Cantonese opera from a young age, thanks to the influence of her father. Recognizing her talent and passion, she enrolled in the Cantonese Opera Academy of Hong Kong’s youth training program at the age of 16, where she honed her skills and graduated with the prestigious “Outstanding Student Award” in 2015.
In 2020, Leung took a significant step forward in her career, officially becoming a theatrical performer. She has since played pivotal roles in several modern Cantonese operas, including “Wuxia”, “A Rift Repaired”, and “Butterfly Lovers”.
Leung’s passion for Cantonese opera extends beyond her own success. As a member of the younger generation, she feels a deep sense of responsibility to promote this traditional art form and ensure its survival in the modern era. She actively engages with schools, sharing her knowledge and experiences, and strives to incorporate new elements into her performances to attract a wider audience, particularly the younger generation.
Leung firmly believes that Cantonese opera is not a distant and inaccessible art form but rather one that is deeply intertwined with everyday life. She aims to bridge the gap between opera and the audience by seamlessly integrating it into daily life, making it relatable and accessible to all.
