The School of Communication (SCOM) held its First Teaching Sharing Seminar in AY2025/26 on 28 May 2026. The seminar was delivered by Dr. Chan Ka Lok, Sobel, Senior Lecturer of SCOM, under the title “AI Video Model for Enhancing Teaching, Learning and Content Creation.”
Dr. Chan first introduced the outcomes of the teaching development project “Enhancing Digital Communication through Generative AI: A Pilot Scheme for Innovative Pedagogies.” Supported by the University Teaching and Learning Development Grant, the project was conducted under the leadership and supervision of Professor Chiu Ying Chun, Ronald. The project team included Dr. Chan Ka Lok, Sobel, Ms. Cheng Suet Oi, Glacial, and Ms. Law Suk Yi, Doris. Through a series of practice-based workshops, the project aimed to enhance students’ AI application skills and AI literacy.
Based on pre- and post-workshop surveys, focus group discussions, student feedback, and project-based assessment, students showed clear improvement in AI tool application, and prompt engineering. Students also noted that the visits to RTHK’s AI Lab and television production studio helped them connect classroom learning with real-world industry practice.
In the second part of the seminar, focusing on the practice-based module CMT2001 Visual Effects and Animation in the Martin Ka Shing Lee Innovation Lab, he demonstrated how students learned virtual production workflows, AI VFX, set extension, motion control, and real-time interaction between performers and virtual backgrounds. He pointed out that XR production can reduce the limitations of traditional green-screen shooting, enhance production efficiency, and expand creative possibilities.
Dr. Chan emphasized that AI education should go beyond tool operation. Students also need to develop creative storytelling, aesthetic judgment, ethical awareness, and AI literacy. He proposed the teaching concept of “High Human Touch and High AI Tech,” encouraging students to make effective use of AI while creating original works with emotional depth and humanistic concern.
The seminar concluded with a question-and-answer session, during which SCOM colleagues exchanged views on the future development of AI-empowered teaching and learning. The sharing demonstrated SCOM’s ongoing commitment to curriculum innovation and its efforts to equip students for the rapidly evolving media and communication industries.
