Create . Share . Inspire: Your Path to YouTube Fame Training Workshop
The School of Communication and the Department of Management at the School of Business jointly held the “Create. Share. Inspire: Your Path to YouTube Fame” workshop for the first time on 15 February 2025 with 19 students from both the School of Communication and the Department of Management participating. The main goal of this event was to facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration, allowing students to learn knowledge from different fields and understand how to manage online media and create content businesses, thereby enhancing their competitiveness in future careers. At the same time, students also had the opportunity to get to know and interact with each other.
The training workshop began at 9:30 am and concluded at 5 am. Students were divided into four groups (Red, Yellow, Blue, Green) and participated in two training sessions. The first session was conducted by the faculty from the Department of Management, who taught students how to plan an online media business and draft a business proposal. The second session was led by the faculty from the School of Communication, who instructed students on video production and presentation skills. Additionally, to deepen students’ understanding of online media operations and content creation, the School of Communication invited Mr. MAK King-long (Ah Long), a content creator from the online media platform Mill MILK, to share his creative journey and explain how to create video content that attracts viewers while incorporating commercial elements to increase channel revenue. Students listened attentively to Ah Long’s sharing and asked many questions during the Q&A session. In the end, Ah Long encouraged students to hold a “fearless attitude towards failure” when creating, to be brave in learning from mistakes, and to observe and think critically about their surroundings regularly, as experience needs to be accumulated, and ideas for topics are developed in the same way.
After a series of enriching training sessions, it was time for students to put their skills into practice in the afternoon. Each of the four groups was required to complete a business proposal for starting a YouTube platform, applying the knowledge and skills they had learned. The proposal included theme setting, objectives, target audience, market analysis, financial budget, etc., and students also had to shoot a video not exceeding three minutes, which they presented to the judges group by group. The judging panel consisted of Dr. CHANG Chih-Yu, Associate Dean of the School of Communication, and Professor LAU Pak Lung, Head of the Department of Management, who selected the recipients for the Most Potential Award, the Most Creative Award, and the Best Performance Award based on the presentations. At the end, the Yellow Group’s “Learning a New Skill in a Day” won both the Most Potential Award and the Most Creative Award, while the Best Performance Award went to the Green Group for their microfilm creation platform “Twenty Minutes”, which explored life issues.
Both judges commented on the intense competition, noting that all groups were able to apply what they had learned and showcase their creativity. Students gained a lot from the experience, expressing that the workshop was very enjoyable! This unprecedented interdisciplinary collaborative workshop concluded successfully amidst laughter and joy.
