A Journey Through a Legend: Leslie Cheung’s 70th Birthday Exhibition

The Hong Kong Heritage Museum (HKHM) is presenting the “Miss You Much · Leslie 70th Birthday · Exhibition” from 9 September 2026 to 10 May 2027 to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the legendary star Leslie Cheung’s birth. This exhibition celebrates his remarkable achievements in music and film while offering a nostalgic journey through his illustrious career.

Dr. Clio Wu, Programme Director of Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Arts and Culture Communication Programme at the School of Communication (SCOM), The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK), was invited by Mrs. Florence Chan to join a VIP tour of the exhibition at the HKHM, personally guided by Mrs. Chan. As Leslie’s former manager, Mrs. Chan shared many personal anecdotes, including a memorable story about how Leslie had custom-ordered a pair of red high heels from New York for his “Live in Concert 97” performances. After the concerts concluded, he gifted the shoes to his close friend, Nansun Shi, who shared the same shoe size.

The exhibition features over 300 invaluable items, including 11 iconic stage costumes that transport visitors back to the electrifying atmosphere of Leslie’s concerts. Highlights on public display for the first time include his personal furniture, the gold jacket, sequin top, and purple striped trousers worn during “Live in Concert 97”, as well as a portrait created by local artist Yuen Tai-yung. Additionally, parts of Leslie’s former residence have been recreated for the exhibition, featuring his desk and chairs to invite visitors into the private world of this iconic superstar.
