Students of HKFYG Lee Shau Kee College Visited the School of Communication of The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong

3 August 2022

With the aim of providing an opportunity for secondary students to have a better understanding of the School of Communication (SCOM) of The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK), the Hong Kong Press Council (the Council) arranged nearly 100 Form 4 students and 6 teachers from HKFYG Lee Shau Kee College to visit SCOM on 3 August 2022.

Visitors attended a briefing session at the Auditorium at Lee Quo Wei Academic Building upon arrival. Ms. Chan Siu Ping, the Secretary General of the Council introduced the background of this visit. Professor Scarlet Tso, Dean of SCOM delivered a welcoming speech, highlighting the need of communication professionals in the community and that graduates would have an extensive career path.  An information talk on the SCOM programmes was conducted by Ms. Glacial Cheng, Senior Lecturer. The visiting students were interested to learn about the programme uniqueness.  After the briefing, the visiting students were divided into small groups and took turns to visit SCOM’s facilities led by SCOM teachers.

The points of interest of the facilities tour included the SCOM Cinema and TV Production Centre, the Radio Broadcast Training Centre and the Multimedia Training Centre. The tour guides, who were SCOM teachers, explained the features and operations of the different facilities, and invited students to try them out, such as professional studio cameras, audio equipment, sound recording software, anchor equipment and professional media equipment. The visiting students were all very excited at the hands-on experience with sophisticated equipment.

A graduate of SCOM was also invited to share her university life during her studies in the School. Visiting students asked a lot of questions and took the opportunity to mingle with SCOM teachers. At the end of the event, all visiting students received a souvenir pack specially prepared by SCOM.

The School of Communication believes that through such activities, it can provide a better understanding of the programs to secondary school students.  The visiting students also agreed that the activities could help them in their future tertiary studies planning.
