A Visit to Jiangmen

The three-day Jiangmen Visit (March 16 – 18), jointly organized by the Hong Kong Jiangmen Wuyi Overseas Chinese Association, the Hong Kong Jiangmen Wuyi Fellowship Association (hereinafter referred to as the Hong Kong Jiangmen Wuyi Federation) and the School of Communication of Hang Seng University of Hong Kong, finally came to a successful and fruitful conclusion. The Dean of the School of Communication (SCOM), Professor Scarlet TSO, led 17 teachers and students to participate in this meaningful activity through which they not only had a better appreciation of the history, culture and development of Jiangmen as the homeland of the Overseas Chinese in China, but also gained a deeper understanding of the development opportunity for young people in the Greater Bay Area. Furthermore, they were provided with useful information regarding the government’s policy support for young people from Hong Kong and Macau to start a business or working in Jiangmen as well as the work of the legislative branch of the People’s Congress of Jianghai District.

A group of delegates consisting of 45 people from the Hong Kong Jiangmen Wuyi Federation and the School of Communication of Hang Seng University of Hong Kong arrived in Jiangmen on March 16 to start a three-day visit in the homeland of overseas Chinese. The visiting group was warmly received by the Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese of Jiangmen City, and the arrangement of the visit itinerary was rich and impressive. Ms. LIN Chunhui, Party Secretary and Chairman of the Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese of Jiangmen City, had a cordial conversation with the delegation, encouraging young people to come to Jiangmen to start a business and working together to jointly develop the Jianghai District.

Accompanied by the staff of the Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese of Jiangmen City, the delegation spent their time on visiting the three districts under the administration of the Jiangmen Municipality – Pengjiang, Jianghai and Xinhui. To gain a good experience of the overseas Chinese culture in Jiangmen, the delegation visited various places, including Jianghaifazhi Square, the Exhibition Hall of Qiaomengyuan, the Overseas Chinese Museum in the Overseas Chinese Capital of China, Mingxing Park, and Qimingli Lane in Pengjiang District. Besides, the delegation also visited Jiangmen Radio and Television Station and Wuyi University. In Wuyi University, the delegation was led to see the Overseas Chinese Culture Exhibition Hall of the Institute for Guangdong Qiaoxiang Studies, the Sino-German Artificial Intelligence Learning Hall, and the Modern Industrial Production Technology Comprehensive Training Center to get a better feel of the development history of contemporary Jiangmen. At the same time, the delegation had the opportunity to engage in discussions with teachers and students at the School of Economics and Management and the School of Arts of Wuyi University. Certainly, such interactions would be beneficial for the future cooperation between the School of Communication and Wuyi University. Finally, for deepening their understanding of the development history of the overseas Chinese enterprise in Jiangmen, the delegation visited Lee Kum Kee (Xinhui) Food Company Limited, attended the “Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship of Great Bay Area Salon”held by Jiangmen Overseas Young Chinese Sectors, and visited the Live Broadcast of Guangdong Yuexinyi Technology Company Limited.

Much appreciated the great effort put to make the visit possible, the School of Communication would like to take this opportunity to thank the Hong Kong Jiangmen Wuyi Federation for their sponsor and support. Moreover, the strong coordination with thoughtful arrangements supported by various units in Jiangmen has greatly enriched the visit and opened the eyes of the teachers and students of the School of Communication to see, feel and understand the rapid development of the Mainland.
