A Journey of Self-discovery

“A Journey of Self-discovery” organized by the School of Communication was held on 1 April at campus.  The event was aimed to equip senior students with a positive attitude to meet challenges ahead of their internship program and career development.  The one-day activity helped students to discover their originality, soul searching and build up self-confidence.  Various coaches were invited by the School to guide through this unique experience.

Professor Ronald Chiu, Associate Dean of the School kicked off the event by sharing his own internship days at his time.  The morning session was a hands-on experience of sound and music therapy, led by sound therapist Ms. Mina Cheng.  Students learned to master a healing tool, the Singing Bowl.  With the acceptance and appreciation of the sound from the Bowl, students engaged in a state of positiveness and thankfulness.  After an hour of interaction, students found themselves immersed in calmness and attained peace of mind and body.

Two year 4 students, Ms Leung Ka-wing, from BJC; and Ms Fok Hiu-lam Ofelia, from CMCT, were invited to share their experiences in their internship program.  Students found such information extremely useful.

In the afternoon session, Mr. Michael Cheng, a family therapist, facilitated a variety of group activities to encourage students to explore their inner self and re-examine themselves. The goal was to help individuals to find meaning and contentment in their life journey.  The process may help students to improve their ability to cope with challenges and build attitudes that align with their goals. Learning to manage academic and work pressure well, without losing faith in their original belief and values was the theme in this session.

At the final session, students reflected their thoughts and shared their aspirations with each other.  They hang their messages onto the “Tree of Life”, and hopefully the fruit would ripe one day.  The School hopes that this self-discovery journey would help students to better prepare themselves for the future challenges in life.
