Visit to Bloomberg Hong Kong Office

A group of 30 teachers and students from the School of Communication, led by Dr. Sobel Chan, Dr. Connie Chan, and Ms. Janice Wong, paid a visit to the Bloomberg’s Hong Kong Bureau on April 13. The group received a warm welcome from this global financial data and media company.

The visit included a tour to Bloomberg’s various departments such as news, data, analytics, and technology. The group also had a chance to see the state-of-the-art television production facilities. Mr. Adrian Wong, Senior Producer and Multimedia Reporter shared with students the daily routine of the newsroom and emphasized the importance of being curious and asking questions beyond job specifics.

Ms. Jinshan Hong, Bloomberg’s Hong Kong Deputy Bureau Chief shared with students her storytelling techniques and showcased some of her award-winning stories. Students were particularly interested in her sources, story ideas, and information gathering techniques.

The visit was very fruitful. It provided an opportunity for students to have a better understanding of the industry’s practical operation, broadening their horizon on financial journalism. It has also fulfilled the School’s ongoing efforts to provide students with opportunities to connect the industry.
