SCOM Awards Presentation Ceremony 2023-24

The annual SCOM Awards Presentation Ceremony (2023-24) organized by the School of Communication (SCOM) was held on 30 November 2023. Professor Scarlet Tso, Dean of the School of Communication, congratulated the award-winning students, and in her speech, she expressed that these awards not only represent the students’ efforts and achievements but also serve as affirmation and encouragement for their future development. She hoped that the students could maintain a humble and grateful heart, continue to study hard, constantly pursue excellence, and become a strong force in the future communication industry, making greater contributions to society. 

Four important academic awards, namely the Best Progress awards, the Most Improved awards, the Honour Roll and the Dean’s List were awarded to over 102 students with outstanding academic performance.  In addition, the Rotary Club of Mandarin HK and the China Daily HK donated four scholarships to top students in the academic year 2022/23.  

Professor Scarlet Tso, DG Andy Li, District Governor of Rotary International District 3450, Ms Christine Chan, President of the Rotary Club of Mandarin HK, and other SCOM Professors presented the awards. Members of the Rotary Club, family members and friends of the awardees witnessed and shared the joyous moments in the ceremony. 

Mr TSANG Tsz Chun and Mr Leung Tak Pui of the Bachelor of Journalism and Communication (Honours) (BJC) programme, were selected as the recipients of this year’s Rotary Club scholarships for their outstanding academic performance and distinguished services.  They received $10,000 each. 

LAW Yuk Ting and YU Wai Lam of the BJC programme were selected as the recipients of the two China Daily scholarships for their academic performance and good writing skill. Each scholarship also worth HK$10,000. 

The students of the School of Communication have not only excelled academically, but also possess multiple talents. During the award ceremony, student Jiang Yuxuan from the BJC programme performed the Cantonese song “Shall We Talk,” and alumni Kwok Yat Long, Jason, returned to his alma mater to sing two Cantonese songs, “天才兒童 1985″ and “未知道“, and shared the changes brought by the School of Communication family. Their outstanding performances received warm applause and cheers from the audience. 

The SCOM Awards Presentation Ceremony not only created a positive atmosphere for recognizing academic achievements and motivating learning among the faculty and students, but also demonstrated the School’s high regard and recognition for students’ academic achievements. It allowed guests and teachers and students to celebrate together and share the joy of the students. The School congratulates all the awardees of this year and encourages them to keep up the good work in their future endeavors.
